this canon is huge and spans multiple lifetimes so it's all going under one big page
there are 2 timelines ! one is the portal game we know and love, while the other is android canon, which is the main canon i usually focus on + what this page is all about . that being said, i kin all 3 of these bastards from both TLs .
while glados wasn't the first android to be made by aperture, she was the first and only one to have an actual human subconscious uploaded into her, as request of cave himself . this proved to be .. unstable, but more importantly, costly . all other androids made afterwards were pure AI, though aperture tried to make them as human as possible for an extended time . the aperture science companion droid, lovingly dubbed 'Ai', was developed out of beta core technology to be an assistant to the scientists, notably doug rattmann, leading mind in core development . they were a success, and core development surged forward . development for hundreds upon hundreds of new cores was cheap and shoddy, and this led to most of them becoming 'corrupted' slowly over time as they gained more sentience & deviated from their original programming . Wheatley was developed with the most attention, as the ideal first true assistant + permanent attachment for glados, though she harshly denied him . other cores were attached for brief moments, only for them to be discarded + locked in large glass holding cells for them to run out of battery and rot together .
time passes after being discarded, and both wheatley and the fact core get a surge of life . they take rick and space's bodies with them, and use wheatley's powers of tapping into aperture's systems to escape glados' peering eyes and find themselves in an abandoned portion of aperture, which they declare their home for the time being . rick and space are charged and brought back to life, and things reach a new level of normalcy for the group as they explore the dark bowels of the facility . meanwhile, rattmann and ai are hiding in various crawlspaces, watching chell's progression and continuing their own devotion to science .
eventually, during an expedition, wheatley gets lost from his group and ends up in human storage, knocking on chell's door ...
IMPORTANT CANONMATESthe reason i was originally considered useless is because i hated being a core . i know for a fact that it was .. much, much deeper than that, we werent just what we were programmed to do, we had personalities and life in us . i always hid my ID tag + didnt go into fact mode as much as i could help it (though i was still a Huge Smartass a lot of the time) . during our explorations through the facility i collected notes, on everything . i had my tablet with me at all times and i kept down every username and password i could find . i got myself deep into apertures system, looking over all the data on everything aperture had done and everyone that was brought into the facility .. there wasnt much i could do with it, but i really wanted answers as to why we were made + what use we were beyond just Cores For Glados . i was kind of deadset on that . with that, i learned how to repair and maintain cores, and was essentially our medic . i kept a close eye on everyone & did routine checkups . i figured i could at least use all this data for something good . i learned about corruption early on, and i knew that we all had some level of it, but i kept it to myself until it was too late . i did desperately search for some sort of cure, however ...
after wheatley disappeared, me, rick, and space went on one last expedition through the facility to find him . corruption settled into us all and we became distorted versions of what we once were, essentially in the same state we're seen at the end of the game . i picked and scratched at my face quite often at this point . as the others were thrown out into space, i was left behind, and glados crushed me like a bug . that's pretty much all there is to it !
Wheatley - called him Blue as a power move at first, then as a loving petname . there was ... a lot of tension between us at first, we both had superiority complexes to push past, but we developed a romantic relationship over the course of our time together . i cared for him quite a lot, i didn't exactly know what love was but it is definitely what i felt for him . did a lot of heavy monitoring of his mechanics .
Rick - called him Richard also as a power move . had a weird love/hate relationship with him in my head but he was really, really oblivious to all of it . so did wheats . it was an . Interesting . relationship to say the least dfkhfg . essentially fwbs .
Space - our communal kid . i Will kill for them without hesitation thank you very much . i kept all of the space facts they knew in a special database in my head .
ok i just want to say i wasn't as big of a dick before i got corrupted . i was normalish i swear !! kind of just a humble cowboy man, albiet big stupid & full of myself . i didn't really pay too much attention to the others, most of my thought process was focused on myself . i came up with these big heroic stories about myself in my head & tried to make everything into some sort of adventure, which usually ended with me making our expeditions more dangerous than they oughta be, or getting myself hurt big time . usually kept to myself . i had a tv and couch in my room in the hovel, spent lots of time watching whatever cool action movies i could find in there .
Fact - essentially fwbs . we fought, a lot . always tried to one-up eachother and turned everything into a passive-aggressive contest . it got worse when the corruption set in . that being said, we never stopped defending eachother, + we were still a team at the end of the day .
Wheatley - fwbs, he kind of had a weird tension around me but i was usually oblivious to it . things were weird between us ! but i like showing off for him thank you
Space - our communal kid . spent a lot of time kind of being a father figure to them ! we made up stories together about Space Cowboys and Space Adventures and the like .
after i was proven to be a success, multiple bodies were made for me to quickly body-hop around the facility . that being said, i usually stayed in my original body, and spent most of my time with rattmann, continuing our studies . whatever body my AI wasn't possessing at the time would go into a default state, doing whatever it was ordered to + either humming or gently singing cara mia . i sort of inspired the turrets, really . they were calmed by it . i was eager to help, and i did my best to keep on top of everything ! i was essentially treated as just as much of a scientist as the rest of them, albiet a bit easier to break . i did get burned, but rattmann saved me, and repaired me to working condition while we hid in backrooms and crawlspaces, watching chell from afar .
GladOs - while we didn't talk directly, i was fascinated with her as a creation and being . i wanted to pick apart her brain just as badly as my coworkers, despite the fact i was totally terrified of her . i saw what she did to my other bodies, and i quickly knew to stay far away from her, simply admiring her from a safe distance .
Chell - i had a lot of respect for her ! a fascinating person through and through . i only barely interacted with her, as i was told to keep it to a minimum, but i wish i could've asked her so much, or helped her in some way ..
Rattmann - my partner in science and also partial partner in romance ! we took care of eachother every step of the way . kept eachother going . we took tons upon tons of notes and research papers on every piece of data we could out of glados' uprising, and although we didn't have anyone to show it to anymore, it was a feat we were rather proud of . spent our free time eating and painting, spent the rest of it watching and researching . i'm not sure if we ever made it out, but it was a fun ride while it lasted .
